Formal Test Introduction to Kids and Parents

1. Listening Comprehension. (30 points)
(This part will test your kids’ understanding and translation knowledge. 10 points for each)

1.1 Pinyin Dictation – You will hear 10 Chinese words. Please Write down Pinyin and Tones.
For example: Teacher reads “你” Student needs to write “nǐ” or “ni3” above the line.
2.1 Listen carefully. Circle the right answer and also give the English meaning for the answer
you choose.
For example: Teacher reads “你好” Student needs to circle “你好” and write “hello”.
3.1 Listening comprehension – You will hear 5 Chinese sentences, Write them in English.
For example: Teacher reads “老师，再见。” Student needs to write “Goodbye, Teacher.”

2. Basic Knowledge of Chinese Language. (70 points + extra 30 points)
(This part will test your kids’ Chinese level through reading)

2.1 Please write the tone graph for each Chinese Character below:
For example: Teacher reads “你” Student needs to write “3” as the tone graph.
2.2 Wrtie the 2^nd stroke for the following character and show the route of the stroke by arrow.
For example: “王” on the paper, student needs to write “一” first and write an arrow above
the “一” starting from left to right.
2.3 Give the stroke number for each character below:
For example: “王” on the paper, student needs to write “4” after counting strokes.
2.4 Circle the radicals for each character below and write the radical over the line again.
For example: “你” on the paper, student needs to circle “人” radical and write a copy of “人”
2.5 Check the dictionary and give the 1^st meaning by using Pinyin methods (10 points)
For example: “你” on the paper and also see pinyin “ni3”, use “ni3” to find “你” in
dictionary and write page # and 1^st meaning of English.
2.6 Translate the following Chinese vocabularies into English
For example: “你好” on the paper. Student needs to write “hello”.
2.7 Translate the following Chinese sentences into English
For example: “老师，再见。” on the paper. Student needs to write “Goodbye, Teacher.”
2.8 Rearrange the Chinese words and phrases given to make sentences by the alphabets.
For example: students will see “a. 你 b. 叫 c. 名字 d. 什么 ?” they needs to write the
correct sequence “abdc?”. Please make sure to write punctuation.
2.9 Extra Bonus: Flash Card Test (Extra 30 points)
For example: students come to teacher and recognize the Chinese characters on cards.

3. Oral Part (100 points)
(This part will test your kids’ Chinese speaking skill.)

1.1 Answer the questions: Teacher asks and Kids answers in Chinese.
1.2 Bring a picture of your family, write an essay and also present your family using Chinese .
