每天從半夜燈明到拂曉雞啼，

是男兒讀書最好最佳的時期。

黑髮不知勤學早/黑发不知勤学早

年少不知道勤奮學習要及早，
If young people don’t know how important to study hard earlier;

白首方悔讀書遲/白首方悔读书迟
bái shǒu fāng huǐ dú shū chí

老來會後悔讀書已經失良機。
They will feel regret when getting old.

1、三更燈火：三更半夜，很晚了。
2、五更雞：天快亮時，雞啼叫。
3、黑髮：年少時期，指少年。
4、白首：人老了，指老人。

賞析

勸勉青少年要珍惜少壯年華，少年時代要知道發憤苦讀，勤奮學習，有所作爲，否則，等到老了再想讀書就遲了，後悔已晚，應該珍惜時光。使孩子初步理解人生短暫，從而提高學習的積極性。詩歌以短短的28個字便揭示了這個深刻的道理，達到了催人奮進的效果。
