December 5th, 2015 十二月五日 重點學習: 態度決定高度

Dear Students,

Phew! Congratulations for having completed your Mid-Term Evaluation, some of have you struggled through the test but still endured to the very end. Hats off for your endurance and persistence! Remember, no matter the outcome, a test is never the end; it is a new beginning for improvement. Since we are on this note, I would like to spend a few moments this coming lesson to address our learning attitude in class, because having a positive attitude is the foundation to how well learning takes place in our class, and I would like everyone on board with this important lesson!

For this lesson we will also be working on the following tasks:

1) Warm-up and Learning Review

2) Mid-Term Review

3) Creative Writing Sharing

– Break/Snack

4) Lesson 4 Vocabulary

5) Work Book Exercises

Think/Pair/Share on Sentence Creation

Exit “Vow”: Each students must be able to speak at least 2 sentences in Chinese before they could be excused from class.

十一月二十八日,期中學習評量 

Dear students,

It has been a pleasure teaching you for the last 9 lessons. How wonderfully you all have been participating and challenging each other with curiosity and humour in our class.  Your curiosity is always cherished because it allows me to make our learning materials come alive! My sincere hope is that you may eventually apply what we have learned in class in your everyday life and let Mandarin truly become your second language!

While I look forward to spending more time with you, I’d like to review some of the important topics we have studied in our class through the means of a mid-term evaluation. The goal of this evaluation is not to show you how much you do not know, but rather, give you an opportunity to recognize how much you might have learned in our 9 weeks of study. This evaluation is also a gentle push for you to move forward a little bit so that you can reap the benefit of your efforts. In other words – study hard!

Before I leave you with some tips on how to prepare for tomorrow’s evaluation, I’d like to share a quote that I came up with a number of years ago:

“Education without transformation is hardly education.”

This means, education is about becoming transformed and en-cultured by what we do together both on Saturday mornings and what you do throughout the week, and this sums up my sincere hope for you.

We are going to spend an hour doing some review tomorrow before the evaluation, please prepare both your mind and heart tonight.

Tips:

A) Review all the vocabularies we have done. Two weeks ago you were giving our Vocabulary List for the year. For your convenience, you may download our lesson vocabulary here:
B) Understand how these vocabularies can be used in a sentence. Try to relate to how you would study French for school.
C) Review the Tong Poems we’ve studied. Recognize the words and know how to read them.
The “Song Prose” isn’t included in the evaluation.
D) Review textbook examples on Sentence Making.
E) Becoming a reader. Try your best to recite everything you read.

1. The assignment this week is to copy the two poems once. Bonus marks for attaching a drawing, sketching or painting to the poem.

2. Secondly, record the two poems on Vocaroo.com and send it to Mr. Liu. This is an opportunity to practice your listening and pronunciation skills!
