This week we 1) discussed the homework, 2) practice 3 sentence structures, and 3) practice recitation poem.
For the homework, students will have to complete the first three sentences in workbook B, then write additional 2 sentences for each sentence structure on a piece of paper. Also, I would like them to listen and record the poem for me. They can go to my blog http://blog.huayuworld.org/shyanmei/30695 to get the recording and use the same link to make their recording.

This week we had a quiz in which we practiced 聽寫(Listening),翻譯 (Translation) and 重組 (Unscramble)。It was not graded (well, we did but it was for the prices) and we talked about the correct answers.

 

Then we practiced the Poem "Rainbow" for the recitation contest. For next week, I will have students to read it for the whole class one by one. I also want them to listen to the recording on the blog http://blog.huayuworld.org/shyanmei/30695, make their own recording and send it to me. I didn't get a chance to announce this in the class, so I will announce again in the next class. 

 

Homework is in Workbook B, everything in Lesson 2 except for part 3. Part 3 is sentence structure. I want to devote next class to discuss this important yet complicated part to students. 

 

Finally, I hope it is OK with you that I use candies as an incentive for students to speak up or volunteer in the class. If you have any other prize ideas or anything you could contribute to the class, I would appreciate it!

We finished the vocabulary in Lesson 2 including 信用卡 (credit card),簽 (sign)帳單 (bill)。 We read the text in Lesson 2 and explained the meaning of the text. 

We also practiced recognizing each other's names in Chinese. I think students were surprised that they don't really know each other's name after several years of being in the same classroom! I will continue doing so and hope that it might help create a sense of community for our class.

Finally, we played a game where one student read the new vocabulary and the teams had to write them on the board. Students did a GREAT job and had so much fun!

For the homework, students have to finish writing in the Blue book including p. 16,窗,信。P. 17, 卡,帳,單,簽。P. 18, 箱。  

Next week we will have a quiz on all the (1) vocabulary we learned in Lesson 1 & 2, (2) sentences structures including Translation (from Chinese to English) and Unscramble phrases.

Last but not least, I put the recording for Lesson 2 on the blog. Please listen and practice it. I will ask students to read in the class in the next class.

This week we started Lesson 2, We learned a few new vocabulary including 服 (grade 3),務,員,自(grade 2),助。We then read three sentences in the text that has these words in it. Please check out the Writing Practice Lesson 2 to practice how to write these words correctly. 
 
We also talked about colors and fruits that represent them in the poem for the recitation contest. Also the recitation contest has changed to Dec. 7. And I will take Dec. 14 off for a wedding in Florida. I will announce the subsitute teacher later.  
 
Homework:
 
1. Practice 10 words from Lesson 2 in 生字簿(blue book), p. 13-14 and finished making the flash cards for the words: 務。員。自。助。
 
2. Practice rainbow colors.
