Chinese 2B/2D Lesson Plan

2026~2027       Chinese中文  (6th /7th/8th grade)
Lesson Plan:  Chinese 2B/2D

Class Structure: following current Ashbrook School Guideline

This year, our focus remains on developing practical Chinese communication skills that students can use in everyday life. Students will strengthen their language skills through a variety of cultural experiences, including traditional Chinese painting, Tai Chi, Chinese food, crafts, and other hands-on cultural activities. Lessons will incorporate hands-on projects, multimedia resources, songs, games, and collaborative group activities to make Chinese learning meaningful and engaging.

Students will continue to practice Chinese typing using Hanyu Pinyin, gradually progressing from individual words and phrases to building complete sentences with the vocabulary they have learned. We will emphasize Chinese language immersion in the classroom, encouraging students to express themselves through both spoken and written Chinese.

Phonics and pronunciation practice will also continue to support accurate pronunciation and help prepare students to recognize and read simple Chinese texts.

Following the current Ashbrook School guidelines, Google Classroom will be used for submitting assignments and accessing class materials and resources.

Homework:
Homework will focus primarily on reviewing and practicing the materials introduced in class, with an emphasis on verbal communication, pronunciation, and vocabulary development.

A Chinese Language Use Policy will be implemented in the classroom to encourage students to use Chinese as much as possible during class. This allows the teacher to monitor students’ language development and provide timely strategies and support for improvement.

Selected student presentations and speaking activities may be recorded. These recordings allow the teacher to provide just-in-time feedback and give students an opportunity to review their own speaking performance after class for further practice and refinement.

MP3 audio clips with the Chinese pronunciation of vocabulary words from each assignment will also be provided through online links. These pronunciation resources will remain available throughout the school year, and students are strongly encouraged to listen to and practice with them regularly.

Tests and Quizzes

A short quiz or review activity may be given during each class period. These quizzes are designed to reinforce students’ continuous learning and help them build their Chinese language skills from one week to the next throughout the school year.

Quizlet activities and games will also be incorporated into the course materials. A large collection of Quizlet resources has been created to provide additional opportunities for vocabulary review, pronunciation practice, and interactive language learning.

Class Review:
Google Classroom will be regularly updated throughout the school year with class materials, assignments, review resources, photographs, and selected recordings of classroom performances and activities.

These resources provide students and parents with opportunities to review classroom learning and monitor students’ progress beyond the classroom.

 Textbook:
We will continue using Mei Zhou Chinese and Speak Mandarin in One Thousand Words as the main textbooks for the course.

Additional reference materials, multimedia resources, songs, interactive activities, and cultural resources will also be incorporated to supplement the textbooks and provide students with a broader and more engaging Chinese language-learning experience.
