Happy New Year
Tony: During Spring Festival, dad took me to Chinatown. It’s really lively there.
Joe: Did you see a dragon dance and a lion dance?
Tony: I saw them. That dragon was really long. We also bought year cakes and daikon cakes.
Lily: Did your family do something over Lunar New Year?
Joe: The night of Lunar New Year’s Eve, my dad wrapped jiaozi, and the whole family ate New Year’s Eve dinner.
Devin: Our family ate hot pot. In addition, we had sweet and sour fish and fried rice noodles.
Lily: My parents gave me a red envelope and told me to save it.
Tony: I know! That’s New Year’s money.
Bring a Coat
Mom: With the weather this cold today, how can you wear a skirt?
Vivian: It’s really sunny outside! The weather’s quite warm.
Mom: But the temperature’s going to fall today, and it could rain this afternoon, too.
Vivian: I like this skirt the most. I’m wearing thick socks, too.
Devin: I’m wearing pants. That should do, right?
Mom: You all still aren’t wearing enough. The wind is strong. You should wear a coat, too.
Devin: I’m truly not cold. I’ve already started sweating.
Mom: Wear a coat anyway! Don’t catch a cold.
A Special Birthday Card
Devin: Lily’s birthday is almost here. I want to give a special card to her.
Dad: Do you want to draw a card?
Devin: My classmate says I can use the computer to make a card. Can you teach me how to do that?
Dad: You can choose a card on the Internet. What kind of design do you want?
Devin: I want a design with a cake, candles, and balloons.
Dad: I’ve finished choosing one. Do you want to write some well-wishes on the card?
Devin: I want to write “I wish you a Happy Birthday and happiness every day.”
Dad: OK, I’ll help you type it. Lily should be very happy to receive this card.
Going to the Amusement Park
May: Last week I went to the amusement park. Have you all gone before?
Joe: I’ve gone many times, and this year I went again.
May: What do you all think is the most fun?
Joe: I like the carousel. Going up a little while then down a little while is really fun.
Tony: I like the bumper cars. Bumping over and over again is fun
May: I think the Ferris Wheel is the most fun, but when I arrive at the top it’s a little scary.
Tony: Are you afraid to go on the roller coaster? That is even scarier!
May: I don’t dare. It’s too fast. When I hear someone else screaming, I get nervous.
