臺灣之旅
安娜：這個暑假你去臺灣看家人，還去了哪些
地方？臺灣漂亮嗎？
Anna: This summer vacation you went to Taiwan to see family. Where else did you go? Is Taiwan pretty?
華中：除了看家人，我們順便去了很多地方，
包括故宮博物院和臺北101等等。臺灣的確很
漂亮。
John: Besides seeing family, while we were there we also went to many places, including the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, and so on. Taiwan is certainly pretty.
安娜：聽說臺北的交通很方便， 環境也很安全。
你們還做了什麼呢？
Anna: I heard Taipei’s transportation is very convenient, and the environment is very safe. What else did you all do?
華中：爺爺帶我們去爬他家附近的小山，我最
喜歡在山上的餐廳吃新鮮的青菜。
John: Grandpa took us to climb the small mountain near his house. I liked eating the fresh green vegetables at the restaurant atop the mountain the most.
安娜：可是我記得你不喜歡吃青菜啊！
Anna: But I remember you don’t like to eat green vegetables!
華中：我本來很討厭吃青菜，但是山上的青菜
特別好吃，而且奶奶說青菜很營養，對身體有
好處，所以現在我不挑食了，什麼都吃。
John: I used to hate eating green vegetables, but the green vegetables on top of the mountain were especially delicious. Also, Grandma said green vegetables are very healthy and good for the body, so now I’m not a picky eater. I eat everything.
安娜：聽你說了以後，我對臺灣也很好奇，
希望有機會去臺灣旅行。
Anna: After listening to you, I’m curious about Taiwan too. I hope I have the chance to take a trip to Taiwan.
華中：很多遊客會到臺灣幾個主要的城市旅
行，這些城市都有不同的特色，我建議你一定
都要去看看。
John: Many travelers go to Taiwan’s important cities to travel. These cities all have different special qualities. I recommend you definitely go see

Pen (六）

筆pen

「筆」是生活中很重要的文具。

Writing Implements Writing implements are very important stationery supplies that we use every day.

在筆還沒發明以前，大家是用手指或樹枝在地上寫字。

Before the writing implements was invented, everyone used their fingers or tree branches to write characters on the ground.

後來古代的人用動物的毛跟竹子做成筆，叫做「毛筆」。Afterward, the ancients used animal fur and bamboo to make writing implements, which they called writing brushes.

毛筆的功能很多，書法家拿它來寫書法、畫國畫，詩人拿它來寫詩。

Writing brushes have many functions. Calligraphers use them to write calligraphy and paint traditional Chinese paintings. Poets use them to write poems.

鋼筆跟原子筆發明以後，因為大量生產，價錢便宜，而且用起來方便，所以筆就普遍多了。

After the fountain pen and the pencil were invented, they were produced in great quantities, their prices were low, and they were also convenient to use, so writing implements became much more widespread.

「筆」有很多種，有毛筆、鉛筆、原子筆，還有粉筆、蠟筆、彩色 筆等等。

.There are many kinds of writing implements: writing brushes, fountain pens, and pencils, along with chalk, crayons, colored pens, and so on.

現在雖然發明了電腦，使用筆的機會沒有以前那麼多，但是學生還是要用筆寫功課，一般人生活中還是用得到它。

Nowadays, ever since computers were invented, we don’t have as many opportunities to use pens as before. However, students still use them to do homework, and most people still use them in everyday life.

Get to Know Taiwan (六)

認識台灣 Get to Know Taiwan
台灣在亞洲，是一個美麗的小島。
Taiwan is in Asia. It’s a beautiful little island.
它的東邊是太平洋，西邊是台灣海峽，
The Pacific Ocean is to its east, and the Taiwan Strait to its west.
海峽的另一邊是中國大陸。Mainland China is on the other side of the strait.
日本和韓國在台灣的北邊，菲律賓在台灣的南邊。
Japan and South Korea are to Taiwan’s north, and the Philippines are to Taiwan’s south.
台灣的西部是平原，中間是高山，
Western Taiwan is a plain. There are high mountains in the middle.
最高的山有三千九百多公尺高。
The highest mountain is over 3,900 meters tall.
台灣的風景非常漂亮，Taiwan’s scenery is extremely pretty.
有很多國家公園，和美麗的海邊。
There are many national parks and beautiful coastlines.
台灣有幾個主要的城市，
Taiwan has a number of important cities,
包括台北、台中、台南、高雄、台東和花蓮。
including Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Taitung, and Hualien.
台南是最古老的城市， 高雄是最大的港口，
Tainan is the most ancient city. Kaohsiung is the biggest port.
台北是最大的城市，也是政治、經濟的中心。
Taipei is the biggest city, and it’s also the political and economic center.
台北有方便的交通、Taipei has convenient transportation,
世界有名的博物館和安全的生活環境，
world-famous museums, and a safe living environment.
是很多人喜歡旅遊的城市之一。
It’s one of the cities many people like to travel to.

Healthy Food (六)

健康的食物 Healthy Food

媽媽：今天我炒了一大盤菠菜，你們要多吃一點

Mom: Today I stir-fried a big plate of spinach. You all have to eat a little more.

華中：媽媽，我最討厭吃青菜了，只想吃魚和雞腿。

John: Mom, green vegetables are what I hate the most. I only want to eat fish and chicken legs.

媽媽：不可以。你每次一看到青菜就說不吃。如果你想長 高長大，每一類食物都要吃。

Mom: You can’t do that. Every time you see a green vegetable you say you won’t eat it. If you want to grow up to be big and tall, you have to eat all kinds of food.

華國：每一類食物都有不同的營養，對身體有不同的好處，不應該偏食。

Gary: Different kinds of food are nutritious in different ways and are good for the body in different ways. You shouldn’t be a picky eater.

華中：你也不喜歡喝牛奶啊！而且你也不吃蘋果。 John: You don’t like to drink milk! And you don’t eat apples, either.

華國：可是我吃蛋和豆腐，也很愛吃起司，這些都很營養。

Gary: But I eat eggs and tofu, and I love to eat cheese. These things are all nutritious.

華中：外婆吃素，營養會不會不夠？

John: Grandma is a vegetarian. Does she not get enough nutrition?

媽媽：不會，素食也很好，只要各種青菜、豆類、水果等等都吃，就對健康有幫助。

Mom: It’s not like that. Being a vegetarian is great. As long as you eat all kinds of green vegetables, legumes, and fruits, then it’s very good for your health.
