是啊，剛剛郵差送來的。 Yep, just delivered by the postman.
是誰寄來的？ Who sent it?
是我舅媽寄來的。 It was sent by my aunt.
快拆開來看看吧！ Quick take a look.
信上說他們要來台灣順便來看我。
The letter said they were coming to Taiwan and by the way see me.
這真是個好消息。 This is really good news.
對了，他們從哪裡來？ By the way, where do they come from?
美國西雅圖。 Seattle, USA.
是來觀光的嗎？ Are you here for sightseeing?
不是。 舅舅是來臺北開會的。 no. My uncle came to Taipei for a meeting.
他們要住哪裡呢？ Where are they going to live?
我這裡沒有客房，所以得住飯店。
I don’t have a room here, so I have to stay in a hotel.
他們哪一天到呢？ When will they arrive?
按照信上說的時間應該是三十號。
According to the letter, the time should be the 30th.
他們會呆多久呢？ How long will they stay?
大概一個星期。 About a week.
你得好好安排，帶他們到處走走。
You have to make arrangements and take them around.
我準備帶他們去參觀國父紀念館，再帶他們去一零一大樓到處逛逛。
I’m going to take them to visit the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, and then take them to the 101 Building.
這個安排太好了。 This arrangement is great.

一封信A Letter

媽，郵差剛送來一封信， 好像是舅媽寄來的。Mom, the postman has just delivered a letter.  It seems to be from Aunt.

萬聖節的游戲Halloween Games

是南瓜燈耶！It’s a jack-o-lantern.

這是陶土做的南瓜燈，裏面可以點小蠟燭哦The jack-o-lantern was made by potter’s  clay.

在國外，過萬盛節，我們都會動手做南瓜燈。People overseas make their own jack-o-lanterns on Halloween.

我知道！做南瓜燈要先把瓜肉挖乾淨，再刻上鼻子、嘴巴，非常麻煩。I know. To make a jack-o-lantern, we have to dig out the seeds and then carve a nose and a mouth. It’s too much trouble.

可是萬盛節時家家戶戶都是這樣做的。But everybody does this on Halloween.

在臺灣很少這樣做！We seldom do that in Taiwan.

我們還要打扮得怪模怪樣地去鄰居家要糖。It’s more interesting to dress up in weird costumes and go to the neighbors’ houses asking for candy.

但是我們這麽大了，不能再玩這種游戲了。But we’re too old to play this game any more.

但是我們這麽大了，也不能再玩這種遊戲了。But we’re too old to play this game any more.
我可以替弟弟打扮打扮， 讓他裝扮成小飛俠。I can dress up our little brother as Peter Pan.
我幫妹妹裝扮成巫婆吧。And I’ll help our little sister dress up as witch.
好，比比看誰的化妝技術比較好。OK. We’ll see whose make-up skills are better.

中秋月餅Autumn Festival Moon Cake

媽媽：肚子餓了吧？ 要不要吃月餅？Mama:  Betty, are you hungry?  Would you like to eat a moon cake?

蓓蒂：好哇。 我要豆沙餡兒的。Betty:  OK. I’d Like one stuffed with bean paste.

媽媽:因為秋天是收穫的季節，Mama:      Mid-autumn is the harvest season,
